Learn about composting by doing it! Help us turn the piles. Want to learn how to start and maintain a compost pile? Love getting a workout and doing something meaningful? Join us in turning the Compost Carpool Compost Piles! Check out the steamy gloriousness that is hot composting and learn about: -Proper moisture level -Turning a pile (frequency, proper distribution of moisture and bacteria, the importance of oxygen in aerobic composting) -Balancing greens and browns (nitrogen and carbon) -Tips for heating up a pile and keeping it hot Be sure to bring water! Even in the mornings, it gets pretty hot. We also recommend a hat and closed-toed shoes (ideally boots to protect yourself from ants). How to find us: Head to 6 Stones Nonprofit (209 N Industrial Blvd). While in the parking lot facing the building, look to the right and you will see an overgrown garden area and a large metal building with a wooden porch. Drive over there (it's okay to drive on the grass if you want to) and park just outside the gate. Our compost piles are behind the building.
