Every July, the Historical Society celebrates the first reading of the Declaration of Independence and the signing of the Treaty of Watertown that occurred in July 1776*. Due to COVID, Treaty Day 2021 is being celebrated online here. *The two important events. July 18, 1776 - The first time the Declaration of Independence was read to the citizens of WatertownJuly 19, 1776 - The signing of the first Treaty negotiated by our new nation with a foreign power, namely the St. John's (aka Maliseet) and Mi'kmaq Tribes of Nova Scotia.
