The board and district have many positions from which to take action. Establishing a focus for our advocacy is an important responsibility and directly impacts students, families and community. In setting priorities, the board consider a number of factors, the most important of which is focusing on efforts where it can have the greatest impact for HCPS. The attached legislative platform summarizes the district's position on priority state issues and policy. The board-approved platform serves as the district's official position and is a guide for the board's advocacy efforts in the 2022 legislative session. CLICK HERE TO READ Application Opens For Financial Advisory CommitteeAt last week's School Board meeting, board members unanimously approved the inception of a Financial Advisory Committee. A group of 15 community members will be selected to collaborate with district leaders by discussing financial strategies and providing their perspectives on financial issues facing the seventh-largest school district in the nation. CLICK HERE TO APPLY Check Out Your Local School On The Florida Gap MapThe Florida Department of Education has released the 2021 Florida Standards Assessments results for third-grade English/language arts. TheFloridaGapMap.org, an interactive tool developed by the Florida Chamber Foundation, has been updated with this new data and you can now check out the third-grade reading scores of the schools in your neighborhood as well as the number of children who are not reading at grade level. A strong educational foundation is crucial to a child's future and understanding where students are struggling in your county presents an opportunity to get involved in your local schools. Hillsborough Education Foundation's EmpowerEDOn Sept. 15, the school board will host its annual EmpowerED Luncheon taking place both in person and virtually through a live broadcast. During this hybrid event, those taking part will engage in meaningful conversation about how we're emerging stronger as a community and the lessons we've learned to deliver education for any circumstance.
