MELROSE, MA — The city is looking to solicit community feedback on how lower Main Street can be best utilized for the long-term. Melrose last week announced a pilot program "to improve vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle safety" for just under a mile-long stretch of Main Street between West Wyoming Avenue and the Malden line. The city will test out potential line striping changes before the road is paved in the fall. The temporary changes will help decide what the best course is going forward. The pilot changes will include shifting the center line, installing bike lanes and eliminating parking on one side in select areas. The city is also planning on permanent new crosswalks, accessible curb ramps and other pedestrian safety improvements.
