LINDENHURST, NY —A New York Police Department officer from Lindenhurst is credited with quick thinking on the job that helped save a life. Ronald Kennedy is seen in a video improvising with a potato chip bag and tape to help stem bleeding from a stabbing wound in Harlem earlier this month. Shirley Kennedy tells Patch that her son Ronald Kennedy is a graduate of Lindenhurst High School. Kennedy is seen the video responding to a stabbing attack on July 7, enlisting bystanders to buy him a bag of chips and tape so he could create a makeshift tourniquet to help a man who was bleeding from his ribs. NYPD Chief of Department Rodney Harrison shared the video on Twitter, writing "this is just one example of the heroic work that your NYPD officers do every day. Kennedy can be heard reassuring the victim and directing others to help him lay him down before the ambulance arrived to the scene, on Lenox Ave. in Harlem.
