NEW HAVEN, CT — One victim told police he was shot while riding a dirt bike on Whalley Avenue. In another case, a 50-year-old man from East Haven was shot on Foxon Boulevard in the overnight hours Saturday. And in the third violent incident police said they are investigating, a person was stabbed on Lexington Avenue at around 9:30 Saturday morning. New Haven police spokesperson officer Scott Shumway provided details on all three incidents: Police got 911 calls alerting them that a person had been shot Saturday at around 1 a.m. on Foxon Boulevard, between Eastern Street and Quinnipiac Avenue. When police arrived, they found the East Haven resident suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Eight hours later, just after 9 a.m., Saturday, the 911 calls were for a stabbing on Lexington Avenue, between Revere Court and Russell Street. When cops got there they found a 59-year-old New Haven man "suffering from a large laceration." He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. On Sunday, just after 6 p.m., police were called to St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport for a report of a person who'd been shot. Detectives spoke to a 31-year-old New Haven man who said he'd been shot somewhere on Whalley Avenue while riding a dirt bike. He too was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Since the beginning of the year, New Haven police have investigated 17 homicides and 67 non-fatal shootings in 2021, Shumway confirmed. Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.
