AUSTIN, TX — When the summer heat becomes unbearable, there's no better way to cool off than to splash into some outdoor water spots in the Austin Metro. From popular pool destinations to watering holes hidden in the Texas Hill County, there's more than a dozen spots that'll make a Texas summer worth while. Best Pools, Splash Pads In Austin Metro View this post on Instagram A post shared by Britny & Billy Travel Couple (@ourglobetrotting) Barton Springs Pool2131 William Barton Dr. in Austin Within Zilker Park's 358-acres lies one of the crown jewels of Austin — Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself measures three acres in size, and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for year-round swimming. No entry pass is needed from 9 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Hours: 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.* on Mondays; 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.* and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday * = swim at your own risk Deep Eddy Pool401 Deep Eddy Dr. in Austin Deep Eddy is a very large and spring-fed pool, but with actual concrete on the bottom and sides (unlike Barton Springs Pool). The water is chilly–between 65-75 degrees. There is a beach entrance and lap lanes in separate areas. For more information, visit the city's website or call 512-472-8546. What To Know: No reservation is required however, capacities will be limited. Modified hours have been established based on available resources. Patrons are asked to limit their time to two hours. Once the pool is at capacity, new swimmers will be allowed on a one-in/one-out basis. Hours: 8 a.m. to noon for lap swim only, shallow side closed; noon to 8 p.m. for recreation swim and a minimum of two laps for swimming on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Closed Tuesdays and Fridays. Micki Krebsbach Pool301 Deepwood Drive in Round Rock This pool includes a lap lane pool and a splash pad with a giant pirate shop with water cannons and slides. Hours: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily (closed on Tuesdays). Will be open through Aug. 16. Veterans Memorial Pool2525 W. New Hope Dr. in Cedar Park This 8,300 square-foot activity pool features a drop slide, jumping platform and water playground. It also includes a kiddie slide, cargo net log crossing, water basketball, and rentable poolside shades. For more information, visit the city of Cedar Park's website. Hours: noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday; noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays Admission: free for children 3 and under; $2 for children ages 4-8; $4 for students, children ages 9-17; $5 for adults 18 and up; $2 for seniors or those with military ID. It features an 8,300 square-foot activity pool with a drop slide, jumping platform and water playground, a kiddie slide, cargo net log crossing, water basketball and rentable poolside shades. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday; closed Monday and Tuesday except on Labor Day Admission: $2 per person; credit card payments only Splash Shack1801 Clover Ln. in Cedar Park This indoor water park is perfect for kiddos between the ages of 1-10. The 10,000 square-foot building houses a 30-foot tall interactive water play structure with several slides and a large dump bucket. Best Water Parks In Austin MetroCourtesy of Typhoon TexasTyphoon Texas18500 TX-130 North Service Road in Pflugerville Typhoon Texas offers high-speed tube slides, free-fall body slides, a Texas-sized wave pool and winding lazy river. Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday Kalahari Resort and Water Park3001 Kalahari Blvd. in Round Rock This 223,000 square-foot water park is known to be the biggest indoor water park in the U.S. Enjoy water slides, a wave pool and indoor surfing at this venue. Hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily (indoor water park) Outdoor resort pool: noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday Rock'N River Family Aquatic Center3300 Palm Valley Blvd. in Round Rock The water park is located in Old Settlers Park and includes a sprayground play area, a jumping platform, a rock climbing wall, slides, a lazy river and pools. It features inclusive Resort style amenities like lakefront beach umbrellas, chaise loungers, hammocks, lockers, saddle floats, drink coolers, beach games and more. Visitors must be 7-years-old and 45 inches tall to enjoy the obstacle course. A reservation is required at Waterloo Adventures' website. Barton Creek Greenbelt3755 S Capital of Texas Hwy B in Austin According to locals, the Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls areas of the Barton Creek Greenbelt are some of the best spots to visit. Jacob's Well 221 Woodacre Dr. in Wimberley Located in the Wimberley Valley, Jacob's Well is as much a geological landmark as it is a great spot to take a dip. The well is considered to be the end of an underground, natural spring, so the water is crisp and clear all year round. Public tours of the area are offered every Saturday at 10 a.m., but we recommend going out with a small group and relaxing in the pool. Hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Krause Springs404 Krause Springs Rd. in Spicewood Located in the beautiful Hill Country, Krause Springs has 32 springs on its 115-acre property, with one large natural swimming hole where you'll see most people spending their time this summer. With great water levels and temperatures year round, you never have to worry if the swimming will be great. For more information, visit Krause Springs' website. Hours: 9 a.m. to sunset Hamilton Pool PreserveLocated about 23 miles west of Austin, off Highway 71 This historic swimming hole was formed by the Hamilton Creek spilling out over limestone outcroppings, creating a dramatic 50-foot waterfall that plunges into a canyon. NOTE: Hamilton Pool is closed for summer 2021 due to falling rocks.
