Man, Woman Arrested After SWAT Call In South Austin

AUSTIN, TX — Two people were arrested after a SWAT call was issued for a barricaded person in South Austin on Monday, police said. A man and a woman in their early 30's were arrested and are in police custody, officials told reporters in a news conference around 12:40 p.m. The man faces an aggravated assault charge with a deadly weapon and the woman faces an assault family violence charge. Police said the call came in around 9:08 a.m. near the 1200 block of Algarita Avenue for a "gun HS incident" involving two people. When officers arrived, they saw a woman inside the apartment, but she refused to come outside. Shortly after, SWAT arrived and established communication with the people inside, with both individuals eventually exiting without incident. Authorities said a gun was involved in this situation and it did not appear that the man was refusing to let the woman come outside. A shelter-in-place order for the area has been lifted. This is the third SWAT call out to occur over the past seven days in the Austin area. Policy activity near 1200 blk of Algarita Ave. APD originally called out in regards to Gun HS incident.
