Teen Charged With Car Theft, Taking Credit Cards In Hackettstown

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A 16-year-old from Essex County faces multiple charges in Hackettstown now after police investigated several incidents from this past December, that he turned out to have been involved with. The Hackettstown Police Department says the unnamed boy first broke into a car, an incident the police investigated on the night of Dec. 3, 2020 on East Baldwin Street. The vehicle's owner found some items had been taken, including credit cards. The credit cards were used at a convenience store - also in Hackettstown - several hours later, in the early morning hours of Dec. 4. On the morning of Dec. 7, 2020, police were called to Washington Street when a resident realized their car was missing, which police said was later found on an unspecified date in Newark. A couple of hours later on the same day on Warren Street, a resident told police their cash and credit cards were missing. Police charged the teen on July 13, who is scheduled for a court appearance soon, with one count of taking a motor vehicle without consent, two counts of burglary, two counts of theft of credit cards, one count of credit card fraud and one count of theft of cash.
