Description
NASHUA, NH — Nashua fire, AMR ambulance, and New Hampshire State Police responded to a report of an accident and car fire on the Exit 2 off-ramp to the circumferential Highway on Monday.
Fire crews could see the black smoke from the vehicle burning but initially had difficulty accessing the location.
The vehicle appears to have taken Exit 2, struck the bridge abutment under the Everett Turnpike, and caught fire. When firefighters arrived they found a car fully engulfed in flames and one person out of the vehicle on the ground.
AMR Medics immediately requested a trauma alert at Southern NH Medical Center and then requested a medical helicopter to the scene. The helicopter advised it would be 45 minutes to arrive to the scene so the patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The Exit 2 off-ramp leading to the D.W. Highway was closed to all traffic and the exit to Hudson was able to remain open.
New Hampshire State Police are investigating the accident. Initial information at the scene indicated the vehicle was traveling West and for unknown reasons left the right side of the roadway striking the bridge.
NH Department of Transportation crews are on the scene assisting with the ramp shutdown and checking for damage to the bridge.
At this time no name or official condition has been released about the occupant of the vehicle.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
