MAPLE GROVE, MN — Coronavirus cases fell dramatically in Maple Grove and the surrounding area this spring and early summer as residents rushed to get vaccinated. However, cases have risen significantly in July in Hennepin County, according to a new report. "An average of 47 cases per day were reported in Hennepin County, a 117 percent increase from the average two weeks ago," states the New York Times. "Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 1 in 10 residents have been infected, a total of 125,762 reported cases." Hennepin County is now considered a "moderate risk for unvaccinated people," the Times states. The delta variant is extremely contagious and is spreading quickly across the United States and much of the world. The Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines, however, have proven to be effective against the delta variant. That's good news for residents of Hennepin County, where 65 percent of the total population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. That's among the highest vaccination rates in the state. Check out more COVID-19 data at the New York Times.
