GUITARIST/VOCALISTS WANTED
Meets
Osprey FL
Description
Recent transplants to the area, we are a veteran bass player with over 40 years’ experience and a professionally-trained female singer/keyboardist who has performed in bands, in musical theater and at Carnegie Hall. We are looking for 2 guitarists to form an “old guys” (50+ y.o.) once-a-week cover band in the Sarasota area. We intend to play mostly 60’s-00’s classic rock and classic soul/R&B, with a few other types of tunes occasionally thrown in for variety (but no rap, metal, traditional country or originals, and no more than a few blues tunes). The specific material we’ll play will be up to the band as a whole, but we’d be happy to send you a song list to illustrate the kind of varied, non-cliché repertoire we have in mind. We are seeking non-egotistical, reliable, team-player types who (a) are not looking for fame or fortune, just a great time playing music, (b) are quality-oriented and committed to playing every tune well as a matter of pride and professionalism, and (c) will master the material at home beforehand, in order to make our limited rehearsal time as productive as possible. We have no interest in being in an average hack bar band and want no part of the “mistakes don’t matter because the drunks won’t notice” mentality. This project will require learning new material and a lot of work, so “just show up and play what I already know” types would not be a fit. Singing ability is just as important as proficiency on your instrument, because high-quality multi-part vocals will be key to the band’s success. At least one of the 2 guitarists must be able to share the lead singing. The other guitarist must be able to sing backup harmonies. If you have the ability, we don’t care if you’re male or female. Rehearsals will be once a week, day and time TBD. All band decisions, including song selection, will be made on a collegial basis so that everyone has an equal say. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please give us a holler at or reply to the e-mail address above. Alternatively, if you are not interested personally but have a friend whom you think might be suitable for and interested in this project, please pass this message along. Thanks very much.
