FBI Agent In Whitmer Case Faces Felony Assault Charge

KALAMAZOO, MI — An FBI agent involved in the case against a group of men accused of plotting to kidnap and potentially kill Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has been charged with assault in a west Michigan courtroom. Richard Trask, a 39-year-old FBI agent, was arraigned Monday in 8th District Court in Kalamazoo on a single count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, according to online court records. Trask was released on a $10,000 bond, The Detroit News reported. Trask's arrest was the result of accusations that he assaulted his wife, according to The Detroit News. Trask was involved in the FBI's federal case against Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta, who the feds accused of plotting to kidnap and possibly kill Whitmer. Of the six, Garbin has since pleaded guilty in the case. Several other people also are accused of similar plots against Whitmer. They are charged at the state level by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Trask has been with the FBI since 2011, The News reported.
