Virtual District 7 City Council Candidate Forum Set For Thursday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The League of Women Voters for Greater Tuscaloosa will host an hour-long online political forum Thursday for the two candidates appearing on the ballot next week in the special election for the District 7 seat on the Tuscaloosa City Council. Kimberly Bailey will serve as moderator for the event, which will begin at 7 p.m. on the organization's YouTube channel and Facebook page. The race will see a rematch of former incumbent Sonya McKinstry and challenger Cassius Lanier, who first squared off in March. McKinstry lost to Lanier on March 2 by 28 votes and immediately challenged the results, which a judge threw out due to Lanier not having him criminal record pardoned in time to have properly qualified for the March 2 election. Patch previously reported that Lanier did, however, receive a pardon for his felony record and the prison time he served, allowing him to legally run for office.
