Purpose of position: Animal Care Attendants are responsible for the care and maintenance of our kennel areas. They are first in the line of defense against disease and are integral in maintaining a healthy environment of our animals. Daily care, feeding, and enrichment are their responsibility. Duties and Responsibilities Performs all job duties in an efficient, positive and helpful manner. Participates and promotes HSCO animal safety and wellness. Shares information to enhance the public’s knowledge of animal welfare; as well as possessing knowledge of the HSCO’s mission and programs. 1. Ensure every animal in your care is housed in a clean environment. 2. Follow set cleaning protocols to properly disinfect and clean animal dishes, kennels and/or crates. 3. Follow all guidelines as set out in Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters. 4. Assure that animals in your care are housed with the least amount of stress possible and enrichment is given when appropriate. 5. Keep your assigned area and all animal housing clean throughout the work day once overall cleaning is complete. 6. Check in and monitor community service workers. Ensure that community service workers are following all shelter protocols and working effectively. 7. Report any community service worker not working appropriately to management. 8. Communicate with the Operations Management and/or Veterinarians in regards to health or behavioral concerns. 9. Feed animals appropriately for their size and age. This includes feeding diets prescribed by the veterinarian. 10. Move animals scheduled for surgery to appropriate housing for that procedure. 11. Discuss with management about moving animals into group housing or different kennels as appropriate or space requires. 12. Make sure that laundry is being done and kept up on throughout your shift. 13. Notify Operations Manager when supplies need to be ordered and keep track of supplies so current inventory does not run low. 14. Follow all specific instructions from management and veterinarians. 15. Socialize, bathe, and potentially write descriptions for animals to make them more adoptable. 16. Assist the public within your knowledge to the best of your ability. 17. Perform any additional tasks assigned to you by management. Required Skills and abilities 1. Must be able a dependable, hard worker with reliable transportation. 2. Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. 3. Ability to work efficiently and effectively within the parameters of HSCO policies and procedures. 4. Capable of following set cleaning protocols. 5. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. 6. Basic computer skills needed. 7. Maintain a professional appearance. 8. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. 9. The ability to present HSCO’s mission and policies in a positive way. 10. Must be able to communicate with the public in a consistent and professional manner. 11. Experience handling dogs a plus. Working Conditions: Work may be performed in noisy indoor and outdoor environments. You may encounter exposure to the elements, including severe cold and heat, be exposed to zoonotic diseases and aggressive animals that my result in scratches, bites, kicking or cause other bodily injuries. People assigned to this position may encounter high levels of stress. Position requires lifting, bending, stretching, standing for long periods of time, computer work, writing, and filing. You must have the physical and mental ability to safely perform the full range of duties of the position without creating a hazard to self or others. Full Time with benefits after probationary period. Required schedule includes Wednesday- Sunday; 7am - 3:30 pm Please respond with cover letter and resume.
