Prefer prior work experience in a Veterinary setting but will train promising candidate that has had prior animal handling exposure in other fields as well. Please send resume listing your interest and how you can be an asset to our practice. Veterinary Assistant I The Veterinary Assistant I works closely with veterinary technician and the veterinarian. The Veterinary Assistant I must be able to follow orders quickly and handle animals in situations that may be less than ideal. Veterinary Assistant I Job Description Functions - Assist doctor or technician in restraint and treatment of patients. - Monitor animals and do routine procedures, such as fecal and urine collection. - Perform surgical preparation of patient and surgery suite. - Fill prescriptions and prepare medications as prescribed by veterinarian. - Enter services provided in records or computer. - Maintain logs for lab, controlled substances, anesthesia, surgery, and radiology. - Receive hospitalized patients. - Monitor critical patients. - Assist in gowning surgeon. - Clean up surgery, treatment, lab, and exam areas. - Prepare and send out outside lab tests. - Notify doctor of lab results. - Clean and sterilize instruments - Prepare surgical list - Monitor and support visitors. - Maintain lab and surgical supplies and equipment, including cold pack, sterile surgery packs, ultrasonic, autoclave, electrocardiograms, oxygen and anesthesia machines, centrifuges, and microscope. - Maintain x-ray automatic processor and refill chemicals as needed. - Maintain crash cart. - Bathe and groom animals before release if needed. - Assist receptionists or kennel assistants as needed. - Perform other duties as assigned.
