Description

This event will have presentations about planning perfect picnics, vintage vendors, a fashion show, cocktails, and live music. We are thrilled to be hosting our annual pre-Gatsby How-To event at a new-to-us location this year, the Alameda Naval Air Museum. Our event will begin at 2 pm on Sunday, August 15, with a no-host cocktail hour from Stookey's Club Moderne during which attendees will have an opportunity to connect and reconnect while socializing and exploring the museum's many exhibits. We recognize that dressing up in vintage styles can be intimidating, especially for first-timers, so at 3 pm, we will be hosting a series of short lectures and a fashion show with great tips for pulling together a stylish, comfortable, vintage-inspired ensemble and delicious picnic to allow us to enjoy the elegance and conviviality of the Art Deco Era without breaking the bank! At 4:30 pm, we will open the vendor bazaar for shopping for vintage clothing, jewelry, accessories, and picnic items... and, of course, more socializing! We are still confirming our list of vendors. If you are a vintage seller interested in vending at the event, please email [email protected] for more information. The event will conclude at 6 pm. The museum is located in the former Air Terminal Building #77 at Alameda Point and features archival materials, photographs and stories of the war workers beginning in World War II up to the eventual closing of the base in 1997. Visitors can read historic newspapers, such as those published at Pearl Harbor, and have an opportunity to view the museum's collection, which includes artifacts, photographs, aircraft models, programs, guide books, flyers, documents, safety gear, medals, uniforms, badges, and awards. More information about the museum can be found at http://alamedanavalairmuseum.org/about/. Free parking is available on site. The Art Deco Society of California (ADSC) was founded in 1981 by architectural historian Michael Crowe and other preservationists in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are a not-for-profit [501(c)3] membership organization. Our goals are to increase public awareness of the Art Deco era through preservation and promotion of its art, architecture, music, design, and other forms of popular culture.
