I used to be a part of a weekly creative music jam where all types of instrumentalists come and play improvised music. It was often led by a talented keyboardist who gives out tasteful chord progressions. Other musicians join in adding texture and color. People know when to play and how to contribute. Music can shift gradually with altered chord tones, rhythm, or solos. We play 15 - 20 minutes on such variations and it feels as if only half that time has passed. It is totally absorbing, liberating and exciting. Unfortunately, some people moved and can no longer do this again. Now that the vaccinated are able to get together again I'd love to find groups that are similar to this.
