Mr. Clarke's 7th grade class was my last before moving to San Diego. I had been at Poe since Ms. Diamond in 2nd grade, followed by Brasini, Walsh and Reardon and a couple I've forgotten. I was going to miss MGM, the 8th grade teacher. She was tough and old. Looked 80, but probably closer to 65....Hope the following friends I went to school and played with are doing well. They included Paul W, Rodney K, Johnny H, Billy F, Bobby B, Bernard S and Dennis H, who was a world class handball player. He came to San Diego for a tournament, and I got his room number from the hotel. Called him, and he didn't remember me...Girls that I remember included the sisters, Janet and Charlene C that lived in my building at 10409 Corliss. Also Arlene A, Judy L, Doris N, Donna Z, and Darlene, who actually had a birthday party for me at her house. So nice. I remember watching the Preakness that day. 2 adults come to mind. Snooky, who owned the corner grocery store and was a Cubs fan. We had a nickel bet every day on the Cubs and Yankee's game. So many days I would win a dime when the Yanks won and the Cubs lost. The other guy was "squirelly" Jed, my coach. He was a beer vendor at all the games and took me often to see the Sox, Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. Good times.
To all of you that I knew so long ago, I hope your lives were successful and healthy / Bill E
