Mackinac Bridge Reopens After Bomb Threat, Nothing Found

ST. IGNACE, MI — The Mackinac Bridge was closed to traffic in both directions to and from Michigan's upper and lower peninsula for a few hours Sunday afternoon after a reported bomb threat. Nothing had been found as of 5 p.m., the Mackinac Bridge Twitter account stated, although officials performed a second sweep of the bridge before it is reopened. "All clear," the account tweeted shortly after 5 p.m. A bomb squad and K-9 units were on the scene before 4:30 p.m., 9 & 10 News reporter Eric Lloyd reported on Twitter. The Michigan Department of Transportation had already confirmed the bridge closure in both directions about two hours earlier. Authorities were "dealing with an active bomb threat situation on the Mackinac Bridge," Lloyd tweeted, citing Michigan State Police. A Twitter photo from WLUC shows the bridge had been cleared since before 2:30 p.m. FOX 17 also reported the Mackinac Bridge closure was due to a threat. While the bridge has been reopened, traffic backups in the lanes going from the upper peninsula to the lower peninsula were apparent immediately, photos shared to Twitter show.
