I desperately need help

I have a 2008 Jeep Compass. This thing has over $10,000 invested in it and it still won't run right. Check engine light is on and sometimes flashes. it will just randomly die but starts right back up. Also, the transmission overheats on the freeway. The light will come on and it will lose power. If you pull over with it in nuetral for 10 minutes or so, light goes off and you can continue for a bit. Anyway, my sad story. I am terminally ill. I use this to get to Doctor's appointments. I have a husband but he left me for meth in a huge mess. I can't even get my house put together because there are so many things that I can't do. I absolutely hate being the "damsel in distress". I have always been self sufficient and have spent my life in service to others. I could pay a small amount weekly but I can't find a shop that will accept that.
