Description
Who?
Me: I’m a really, really good-and-versatile piano player interested in developing a “cocktail lounge” duo.
You: Well, it’s a grown-up thing, so we’re talking age 50 or over as a best fit. That said, if you’re under 50 but this advert really speaks to you, then just forget I said anything about age.
What?
American standards (e.g., “The Man that Got Away” and other torch songs);
Broadway (e.g., “On a Clear Day” and other leading lady songs);
1950s/60s/70s pop songs (“The Look of Love” and other Bacharach/David type stuff);
Country ballads (“Crazy” and other Patsy Cline type stuff); and
Blues/jazz (“God Bless the Child” and other Billie Holiday type stuff).
When, Where, How?
My imagination is that at first, the focus would be on just playing at home for a few months to develop and hone a couple of sets. Then, if things align comfortably, playing out in the central New Jersey area. Home base is Princeton and can rehearse here or, if you have a piano, there.
Why?
Because we can, because it’s joyful, because talent is best expressed, and because life is too short (or, perhaps too long) to just think about work all the time.
