The Art of Natural Building with Jim Schalles Jim Schalles of Tallgrass Hearth & Home is dedicated to spreading the knowledge of fiber use in historic and modern construction practices and will be providing a free hands-on demonstration workshop on Saturday, August 7 and Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 11am -2pm during Fiber Arts Festival Omaha! The workshop showcases the uses of straw and other fibers in creating healthy, breathable wall systems, including plasters that incorporate traditional and historic fibers such as animal hair and plant fibers such as cattail fluff. Saturday’s workshop focuses on mixing and applying the Bavarian “light straw clay” technique in creating wall panels. Sunday’s follow-up centers around plasters and fiber rich finishing techniques.
