Join Rissa Miller for a summer evening in the herb garden and learn how to blend herbal drinks and incorporate herbs into flavorful dishes. Herbs are among the rock stars of the plant kingdom. They offer beauty, nutrition, deep complex flavors, and even medicine for humans and animals alike. Join Rissa Miller for a summer evening in the herb garden and learn how to blend herbal drinks, incorporate herbs into complex sauces, and use them to flavor plant-based savories and sweets. Common medicinal uses will be touched on, as well as how to add health-supporting herbs into your everyday life. When: Saturday August 7; dinner at 5pm; class at 6:30pm Where: Private Farm, located between Manchester, Md and Hanover Pa - address will be sent to paid guests Cost: $20 donation, Class-only (20 available); $60 donation, Class with full tasting dinner (only 6 available). All guests will receive instruction and a printed packet of information and recipes, as well as refreshing beverage samples. Six special guests will be invited to a seated dinner with Rissa, tasting the flavor range of Rissa’s herb-infused recipes and sweets in a satisfying and complete meal -- with some special culinary surprises -- as well as the class, info packet, and beverages. This will be Instagram worthy, friends! The evening’s culinary delights will include... To quench your thirst: Hibiscus-Lime-Fruited Sun Tea; Iced Green Tea with Lavender Syrup and Mint; Lavender-B;ueberry Lemonade; and Rosemary-Grapefruit Fizz. All beverages are GF/SF. Dive into classic herb sauces including Golden Sage Gravy over Rosemary Mashed Potatoes, Basil Pesto with Arugula and Sunflower over Zucchini Spirals, and Zesty Chimichurri smothering Quinoa and Chickpeas. All recipes are GF/SF. For the main event, savor Mint-Cucumber-Watermelon Salad with Goatless Cheese Crumbles; Herb Crusted Tofu or Cauliflower Steaks with Roasted Lemon Vinaigrette, and Weeknight Mediterranean Sheet Pan Supper with Oregano-, Thyme-, and Cumin-Scented Veggies. All entrees are GF with SF option. Round out the evening with Lavender Simple Syrup over vegan ice cream, Blackberry-Basil Rustic Galette with Goatless Cheese Crumbles, and Lemon Balm-Rose Petal Biscotti. Dessert recipes contain gluten and soy. Disclaimers: In case of rain, the event will happen the next day, August 8 at the same times. * No walk-ins will be allowed, so we can be prepared for the proper number of guests. * Only those paying for meal get to sample food recipes; regular class attendees are only treated to beverages. * Cancellations can only be refunded up to 3 days before the event, due to buying food/supplies; after that, fees are considered a donation. * All guests opting to taste drinks or beverages must make Rissa aware of known allergies in advance ([email protected]). * Rissa cannot give specific medical advice, as botanical medicine is not recognized as legitimate in the USA by the government or pharmaceutical industry. She is currently studying for her certificates in regional foraging and clinical herbalism concurrently at The Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine and The Herbal Academy; she previously took botany classes at Maryland University of Integrative Health. * This class will not cover topical uses of herbs or foraging; herbs used will be cultivated species available at grocery stores.
