Learn to kayak on Lake Michigan! NWIPA will host a beginning kayak class on Tuesday evening, July 27th at Wells Street Beach in Miller Beach, Gary, Indiana. Participants will learn kayaking safety, boat types and features, and basic paddling strokes. Plenty of time is available to practice with the instructor. If you are interested in buying a kayak, this class will teach you how to choose the right boat for you. On request, a kayak, life vest, and paddle can be made available. Tickets are $35 for NWIPA members, and $50 for the public. You may join NWIPA now by clicking here. Make sure to select the correct ticket, indicating whether you are a member or public, and whether you will bringing your own kayak or need to borrow one. In the event of large waves on Lake Michigan, the class will be held at Robinson Lake in Hobart, Indiana. We'll contact you at the email and phone you provide if the decision is made to move. RequirementsAll participants must register via Eventbrite (see REGISTER button on this page). Each adult must register separately; parents and guardians must register each child.You will receive an email that provides directions, and your ticket. Please bring all tickets with you.Registering means that you have read and agree with our Waiver Of Liability, which includes our rules regarding COVID. Parents and guardians are acknowledging waiver of liability on behalf of the children they are registering.All participants must wear a Coast Guard-approved life vest, properly fitted and secured, all the time they are on the water.If for any reason you cannot attend the event after registering, please come back to Eventbrite and cancel your registration by July 24th. That way you will not prevent another person from being able to attend or borrow a boat if we reach capacity. Thank you!
