NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A motorist in New Rochelle should have paid more attention to the rules of the road, because a traffic stop led to a his car being impounded and he is now facing criminal weapon possession charges.
The Wednesday night traffic stop happened just before 11 p.m. after officers saw a car drive through steady red lights at two different intersections downtown. The car was pulled over near the corner of North Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
Police soon learned the vehicle's registration was expired and the car was impounded. During an inventory search of the vehicle, police found a loaded 9mm Beretta 92A1 handgun under the front passenger seat.
The driver, Jesus Gonzalez, was arrested. The 30-year-old from Groves, Texas was later charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
