NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Late night gunshots at a subsidized housing project led to an arrest and an unregistered "ghost gun" being taken off the streets.
Thursday, just before midnight, New Rochelle police officers on patrol near Lincoln Avenue downtown heard gunshots coming from the Heritage Homes housing complex. Police stopped Hayden Jaques-Samuels, who was leaving the area.
The 20-year-old from New Rochelle was carrying a .40 caliber unregistered gun with no serial number, according to cops. Jaques-Samuels was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
His involvement in the shooting moments before he was taken into custody is still under investigation, officials said today. Investigators later found several 9mm shell casings in two locations in the Heritage Homes complex.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call New Rochelle Police at 914-654-2300.
