HEMPSTEAD, NY — A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car while crossing a street in Hempstead Thursday night. According to police, the man was crossing near 74 N. Franklin Street at 10:05 a.m. when he was struck by a 2014 Dodge driven by a 44-year-old man. The pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable but critical condition. The driver remained at the scene, and police performed a brake and safety check on his car. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
