WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 19-year-old man was shot at the Riverwood Apartments in Woodbridge on Thursday afternoon, according to the Prince William County Police Department. In a report, authorities said the man's injuries were not considered life-threatening, but he was hospitalized. Authorities said the shooting occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 15 and officers responded to investigate the scene at 4:24 p.m. The shooting took place in the 2700 block of Yosocomico Lane, at the Riverwood Apartments. Officers determined that the 19-year-old victim was walking across a parking lot in the area when a vehicle approached them. An unknown man in the vehicle "yelled towards the victim and the acquaintance," according to the police report. Then, the unknown man shot at the pair, police said. The victim suffered a gunshot wound in the lower body, and a family member drove him to the hospital before contacting the authorities. When officers arrived to investigate the scene, they found shell casings in the parking lot, according to the police department. Officers said they also found a nearby apartment that had been struck by a bullet. No other injuries or property damage was reported in the shooting.
