NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport Police Department confirms two houses and a vehicle in a Grand Pointe were struck by stray bullets on Saturday. Thankfully, no one was injured and the shooting was not believed to be intentional. NPD Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter told Patch that investigators were able to make contact shortly after receiving initial call with individuals who were just outside the city limits target shooting. The neighborhood is positioned within the Northport city limits, but near more secluded areas in the county where target shooting outdoors on personal property is legal. "We've identified who we think was responsible, but it wasn't like someone was doing it intentionally." He then said a report was made on the incident, but no charges filed. A bullet hole could be seen in the door on a SUV parked at the Grand Pointe community pool on Saturday (Submitted photo) Chad Haynie, who serves as president of the neighborhood's Home Owner's Association, told Patch at least one bullet struck a home on Rock Pointe Way, while a SUV was struck on Shade Tree Lane as it was parked the neighborhood's community swimming pool. "We're concerned for the safety of our homeowners and residents and greatly appreciate the quick action of the Northport Police Department and Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office in finding the shooters," he said. "Regardless of intent, it should serve as a reminder for everyone the importance of gun safety and remembering what goes up, must come down. We're disappointed in the damage of property but glad no one was injured by the reckless behavior today." Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
