Reports to: Facilities Manager Regular, full-time Hourly, non-exempt Compensation: $18.50 per hour + additional BOE (Based On Experience) Benefits: Available to employees working an average of 30 hours per week on a regular basis (regular, full-time employees) Under the general direction of the Facilities Manager (and Operations Director), assists in performing routine farm animal care and grounds maintenance. Works with related operating equipment and systems. Performs related preventive maintenance duties as required. Moderate problem-solving required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FARMHAND AND ANIMAL CARE • Feed and water animals twice daily • Cleaning of stalls and water systems • Observing animals for signs of injury, illness, or significant changes; communicating problems observed to Property Manager • Muck horse stalls, clean yard, arenas and paddocks • Clean and sanitize dog kennels • Bring hay from upper barn as needed • Maintain and repair fences, paddocks, pastures, and manage manure in all enclosures • Assist with repair and maintenance of shelters, barns, and water systems • Perform landscaping and pasture management duties, including mowing and weed whacking • Operate farm equipment for rolling riding arena and moving animal waste • Clean tack room and tool area (cobwebbing, garbage removal, sweeping) • Weed and water garden and hanging plants (spring and summer) • Assist other property employees as needed • Wash bedding and horse blankets as needed • Secure property at end of shift • Other duties as required MAINTENANCE • Monitoring grounds and cleaning up garbage and other debris as needed, operating leaf blower, shoveling and other landscaping tasks as assigned and needed • Perform daily work-order checks and record data in company computer database • Learn standard preventative maintenance procedures relevant to the related buildings and utilize those skills as needed and assigned by the Facilities Manager • Other duties as assigned and directed under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor • This job has no regular supervisory responsibilities; to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and abilities required; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED !! Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience with horses and other animals (including handling and care) !! • Experience working with hand electrical tools • Must have experience working in a farm environment • Reliable and flexible attendance is essential to providing optimum animal care • Weekend work required • Must work well with others and enjoy working with animals • Applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check • Must be able to walk and stand; must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds • Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle with adequate level of insurance WORKING CONDITIONS • Working conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, crawling in small cramped spaces, working from ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations; working in extreme temperatures, around moving machinery, and in confined spaces containing high levels of noise, dust, and odors • Some risk of exposure to dirt and chemicals, some danger of burns, electric shock, infection or minor injuries possibly requiring the use of OSHA-approved personal protective equipment to be provided by the employer, such as gloves, safety glasses, and ear plugs • Working with and around animals • 7 days a week operation requiring variable schedule including day, evening, weekend coverage, along with occasional overtime PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Working in conditions noted above; other demands may include walking, standing, bending, reaching, and stooping for extended periods of time; climbing ladders; may include lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 pounds Priority consideration will be given to those with horse and animal care experience.
