Bullmastiff Mix

Description

Rocky is a Bullmastiff crossbreed or possibly Neapolitan Mastiff mix, based on the best guess of everyone at my veterinary clinic. He is 3 years old and 110 pounds, neutered, up to date on shots. I essentially saved Rocky from death row, since his original owner was going to have him euthanized due to his skin issues. When he came into the vet office where I work, Rocky was mostly bald. (See photos for some before and after pictures.) His owner couldn't afford his care, so I offered to take him. He was just too sweet and happy to be put down! I've gotten him to the point that he has fur again in place of inflamed skin. Willing to let potential new owners take him home on a trial period. I only want to find a home for him that will be a perfect match. But anywhere he goes will have to be an improvement over the foster home he has now! I plan to be very picky with placing him. A certain level of care must be maintained, or Rocky will quickly revert back to being bald and inflamed. Anyone who has experience with bully breeds and their sensitive skin issues would be a plus! Should be only dog or live with another XL dog like a Mastiff or Great Dane - he has no spatial awareness and tends to annoy or be an unintentional danger to smaller dogs because he is basically a clumsy, lumbering bear. For this reason, I don't think he should go to a home with small kids either. (He's just too much of a klutz and has no self-awareness. Could knock kids down just by turning around or lifting a massive paw.) Would prefer him to go to a home with previous giant breed experience! I don't recommend him for a home with cats - he hasn't lived with any but wants to chase them and could easily accidentally hurt them with his huge paws. Lazy but can be stubborn. Generally very determined once he sets his mind to something, but not overly bright. Often compared by my family to a loaf of pumpernickel bread, if said loaf had a dual purpose as an affectionate battering ram. Walks are slow ambles, but Rocky sometimes pulls when he sees someone he wants to say hi to - which I normally don't let him do unless people are okay with it. His size makes him very intimidating to most people, plus he sometimes tries to stand up and put his giant front paws on people he really likes. Also he often makes happy grumbling noises which the uninitiated mistake for aggression while those who understand dogs know he is just trying to talk. Counter surfs if food is left out. Also gets into trash, so I have one with a latching lid. Thinks he is a lap dog and just wants to be on top of his people while they watch TV. Rehoming him because my APBT has been resource guarding and attacking him. Rocky is not the instigator and does not resource guard. Rocky gets along with my friends' Collies and Aussie mix. He currently lives very happily with my senior Great Dane mix, and has no problem with Ajax either. It's just that Ajax hates to share me or anything he perceives as his and is being a jerk to Rocky. Asking a $200 rehoming fee for his safety, but may be negotiable to the right home. He will come with his food and some supplies.
