Join the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia & Cemetery Conservator, Robert Mosko, for a two-day cemetery restoration workshop at the historic Oak Hill Cemetery in Bramwell, West Virginia . This workshop is for all levels of experience. The schedule for the two-day workshop is:
Day 1: Participants will attend a classroom style lecture in which they will learn
What a conservator is How to identify different types of cemeteries and the various features that make them what they areHow to identify the most common types of gravestones, the various styles, designs, and construction, as well as the most common conditions encountered within the hardscapeHow to recognize liability issues and concernsCommon, appropriate treatments to include cleaning methods and techniques, basic resetting methods and documentation
Day 2: Participants will take part in hands-on field work applying what was learned the previous day. Participants will identify and select a gravestone that would appear to be in actual need of conservation treatment, document its condition, prepare a treatment plan and carry out the approved treatment in accordance to the skill level taught. Documentation of the treatment will be performed upon completion.
Participants are expected to attend both days of the workshop.
