Description

Join Etta & Megan for an art & movement therapy workshop for the family! We will be addressing antibullying & violence prevention. This is a collaborative art therapy & movement/dance therapy group, hosted every 3rd Saturday of the month. It has been adapted from the “Disarming the Playground” curriculum, which is a violence prevention program for families. In this workshop, we will address the increase in bullying and aggressive behaviors through dance/movement-based curriculum on violence prevention. It utilizes fun activities that allow children to develop safe ways to protect themselves from danger. The series also includes a simultaneous art therapy workshop for parents, exploring the comparative themes and lessons to provide a supportive role in the home environment. • No art or dance experience required! All supplies will be provided. • $45/one child + one adult; $5/any additional family members • Designed for parents/guardians + children ages 6-10. Megan Shaffer, MA, R-DMT will be hosting the dance/movement therapy portion of this workshop. The official definition from the American Art Therapy Association: “Art therapy is the therapeutic use of art making, within a professional relationship, by people who experience illness, trauma or challenges in living, and by people who seek personal development. Through creating art and reflecting on the art products and processes, people can increase awareness of self and others, cope with symptoms, stress and traumatic experiences, enhance cognitive abilities, and enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of making art.” Simply put… Art Therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
