Join this enlightening tour to discover and explore towns that ensued Emancipation. This Freedman's Town tour will explore several Freedmen towns in Dallas County and suburban areas. This tour experience will explore the significance and importance of local Freedman Towns that were created by force during reconstruction. The participants will be led through a journey of how the landscape and racial divide came to be in Dallas Co. Please be advised that face coverings will be required at all times and seating will be limited due to safety for COVID. Arrive at least 15-20 minutes before departure and there is free parking at the departure site. There will be one stop made for lunch, a food court in the mall, to buy and eat on the bus, or guests may bring their own lunch. This tour will be led by Dr. George Keaton, Remembering Black Dallas, with support from bcWORKSHOP. Tickets are free thanks to funding from Humanities Texas for [bc]'s Freedman's Town Stories project, which was partially postponed due to COVID. buildingcommunityWORKSHOP is a Texas based nonprofit community design center seeking to improve the livability and viability of communities through the practice of thoughtful design and making. We enrich the lives of citizens by bringing design thinking to areas of our city where resources are most scarce.
