Posted on facebook by the Harman family. Funds Established Honoring MFD Captain Mike HarmanOn behalf of the Harman Family, we are incredibly touched to announce two very special funds that were created in Mike's honor. The way people came together to make this happen is simply amazing. 1) The Michael Harman Scholarship Fund - Mike had a huge presence at all the schools in town. He was in charge of the fire drills, being present in the classrooms to educate the kids on fire safety, and having fun with them while doing it. He took this role very seriously and wrote a grant for the town, which he was awarded, to get funding for the SAFE (Student Awareness of Fire Education) Program. Full details on eligibility of the scholarship are still to be discussed. If you are interested in donating, please make checks payable to "Town of Medfield - Michael Harman Scholarship" and mail/drop checks off at the Medfield Town Hall, 459 Main St. 2) The Medfield Fire Cadet Program - Chief Carrico and Mike spearheaded this program while Mike ran and oversaw the day-to-day. The program is designed for students who would like to learn more about an exciting career in firefighting and emergency medical services. Students must be 16 years or older to be eligible to participate in the program. They learn things like: FireFighter Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, 911 and Emergency Communications, First Responder, EMS, Fire Department Organization and Structure, Hazardous Material Awareness, Search and Rescue, Strategy and Tactics of firefighting, Fire Streams, Hose and Hydrants, Fire Extinguisher Use and Selection, Vehicle Extrication, and Public Education and Code Enforcement. If you are interested in donating, please make checks payable to "The Medfield Fire Cadet Program" and mail/drop checks off at the Medfield Fire Station, 114 North St., addressed ATTN Fire Chief. In writing this out, I'm overcome with such pride and admiration for the work Mike did and the love he had for his career and the Town of Medfield. These funds are so near and dear to his heart. Any amount would go such a long way in keeping these initiatives well funded and his legacy alive.
