BROOKLYN, NY — A man hit by a Jeep while he was in a cardboard box under a Brooklyn highway has died, according to police.
Anthony Watts, 46, was inside a cardboard box near Third Avenue and 52nd Street around 8:20 p.m. last Friday, July 9, when the Jeep struck the box, and him inside, police said.
The 35-year-old Jeep driver had been turning left off of Third Avenue to park under the Gowanus Expressway when he struck the box and Watts, police said.
Police found Watts with head and body trauma lying in the road. He was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was later pronounced dead, police said Friday.
Watts, who the Daily News reported was homeless, had his address listed only as a mailbox in Manhattan commonly used by homeless men and women to get their mail.
The driver remained at the scene after the crash, police said. As of Friday there were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing, according to police.
