FRANKLIN, WI — The Thursday night bocce ball league at Croatian Park that plays alongside the weekly beer garden has pushed back its start date to allow for more people to join, a Facebook post from the Franklin Beer Garden said. An open house for new players and teams was scheduled for August 5. The open house event will allow potential players to ask questions and learn more about joining the league, the Facebook post said. The registration deadline was previously set as July 12 for the league. The league intended on playing its first game Thursday, but the start date has been pushed back to August 19, the Facebook post said. Many people expressed interest in a bocce league but were unsure about a commitment to league play, the Franklin Beer Garden posted on Facebook. The open house will provide more information for those that were considering joining. The beer garden said in its post that it hopes for league games to wrap up before 9 p.m. each Thursday. Bocce is a game where people or teams compete by throwing "bocce" balls toward a small target on the ground. Whoever gets their large bocce balls closest to the target ball wins the most points, according to the United States Bocce Federation (USBF) rules. While the Franklin Beer Garden league plays with the USBF rules, it is open to players of all skill levels that are older than 21. Players will form teams of four that compete in best-of-three matches each Thursday until an eventual playoff tournament. Individuals can join as a free agent for $50 or teams can sign up to compete against others for a $200 registration fee, according to the Croatian Park website. The league will start playing on August 19 at the Franklin Beer Garden in Croatian Park located at 9100 S 76th Street in Franklin. >>>Learn more and register for the Thursday night bocce league at Croatian Park online.
