WESTPORT, CT — A 56-year-old Westport man was arrested on a warrant Thursday charging him with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child, according to Westport police. Christopher Austin was additionally charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the case, which police said took place at a home in town. "The victim, who is a minor, was living with a relative in Westport," police said in a statement. "Christopher Austin also lived in the home. The victim alleged that Mr. Austin entered her bedroom and touched her inappropriately." Additional details were not disclosed, but Westport police said that the department "conducted an extensive investigation that included multiple interviews as well as the execution of a search warrant" in connection with the case. "Based upon the results of the investigation, a warrant for Mr. Austin's arrest was completed and signed by a Superior Court Judge," Westport police said. In a statement emailed to Patch, criminal defense attorney Mark Sherman, who is representing Austin, said that his client is "completely innocent of these charges." "Chris provided a safe home and education for this teenager while balancing a busy career and family life of his own," Sherman said. "Unfortunately, these false accusations arise as a result of a volatile family situation that is unrelated to Chris. He never inappropriately touched anyone, and we will seek a swift and full vindication in court." Austin, who surrendered to Westport police Thursday morning, was released after posting bond on bail of $500,000, and he is scheduled to be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court on July 28.
