Description
Thanks for taking a moment to read this.
I'm seeing something sad and unfair happen often and all of the sudden to a breed I love, train and raise responsibly.
Cane Corso's are ending up on CL at 1 to 2 years old needing new homes ASAP because owners were unprepared when they bought them.
Unscrupulous and backyard "breeders" are describing these dogs as GENTLE GIANTS, TEDDY BEARS etc and not giving the full story. These are magnificent animals that must be trained, socialized and handled like a JOB.
CANE CORSO'S ARE NOT A BEGINNER BREED.
They aren't like Pit Bulls, or Rottweilers, or Doberman's, or really any domestic dog you're used to handling out here. They are specialized and require time, money and patience. Think twice about bringing this dog into your home if you can't provide all of these things IMMEDIATELY AND FOR THE DURATION OF THEIR LIFE. Especially the first couple of years..it'll be your full time gig trust me.
Please keep something else in mind when choosing this breed..
NO REMOTELY DECENT CORSO BREEDER WILL BE ON CRAIGSLIST. That is a fact. Anyone even ok will have a wait list, and it will be worth it. If you see puppies, even if it looks legit, they are from a backyard puppy mill with bad stock.
Why is this important?
YOU DON'T WANT 100+ LB. guard dog with a screw loose. You want a good temperament and to start out knowing his mama isn't also his sister from a previous litter.
I love these dogs. It kills me to see them looking forlorn in these ads, getting booted out because they haven't been handled properly. I'd take every one if I could. 😔
The least I can do is warn you.
If anyone needs advice or help with their Corso, feel free to reach out. I'll do what I can.
