BOULDER, CO — A Boulder police officer died in a fall while hiking Thursday in Rocky Mountain National Park, the Boulder Police Department said.
The department received a call around 5 p.m. from law enforcement officials in the park, who reported that 35-year-old Ashley Haarmann "had fallen from a treacherous part of a mountain path and died," the department said.
Haarmann, who lived in Loveland, had worked for the Boulder Police Department for around a year and a half.
Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold sent members of her department's command staff to the park to ensure that Haarmann was covered with the American flag until she was escorted to the Boulder County Coroner's Office Thursday night.

"Our Department is again mourning the loss of a friend, coworker and dedicated public servant," Herold said in a statement.
"Ashley was doing something she loved yesterday, and though it's not much, I hope we can take some solace in that."
