'Rain Falls Special On Me' Show Coming To Ground Floor Theatre

AUSTIN, TX — Ground Floor Theatre will return to in-person performances with an original play called "Rain Fall Special On Me" in August. The show will run from Aug. 19 through Sept. 4 at Ground Floor Theatre, 979 Springdale Road in Austin. Tickets are $25 and available on the theater's website. The original play takes place in Austin and follows Mikey, Snake, Miss Candace, Motor, Mac, and Julie – all of whom are on the street for different reasons, behind a theater during a rainstorm as they navigate their relationships, dreams, and often, survival. "This is the longest I have ever been involved with a show in any capacity and been able to watch it blossom and change not just because of the metamorphosis involved with an original work, but also the outside forces that caused us to look at it in vastly different ways," said director and GFT Co-Artistic Director Patti Neff-Tiven. "I'm thrilled that we will be able to give rain the full production it deserves, as it speaks so much to our present moment and the issues and struggles houseless folks are experiencing right now." Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday nights and 5 p.m. on Sundays. The "First Friday" performance on August 20 will include a reception, theater officials said. Talkbacks with community partners will be held after certain performances with dates and partners to be announced shortly. Ground Floor Theatre said it believes in "theatre for everyone" regardless of ability to pay, so tickets are always "Pay What You Can." Suggested ticket prices is $25 and VIP for $40. VIP seating includes a reserved seat, a glass of bubbly and the assurance of helping GFT keep the "Pay What You Can" policy.
