Happy National Tattoo Day, Today I rounded up news about who won the vaccine lotteries, an unusual shooting spree, and an effort to hold a recall election. There's also a long list of live music, and some other events I gathered as a small sample of the something for everyone in Raleigh. Today's weather: Possible light rain in the evening and overnight. High: 92 Low: 76. Here are the top stories in Raleigh today: A local activist group is calling for a recall election to remove Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin from office. The call comes largely in response to the move to delay local elections by a year, which many saw as a power grab to keep municipal leaders in office for longer. In order to succeed, Livable Raleigh must obtain the signatures of at least 13,745 people on the petition. The move to push back the election has permanent implications, and the process to pass that legislation was incredibly opaque. (WRAL)Wake Tech and Red Hat are partnering to provide high-quality IT training to more students. The Red Hat Certified System Administrator training course is a standalone certification course that would take four months to complete. Students who complete the course will also gain support and resources through Red Hat, including career counseling, mentoring, networking opportunities, and more. (Wake Tech News)Raleigh Police are investigating a pellet gun shooting spree that happened on Wednesday evening. There were three incidents in less than 90 minutes, and three people were sent to the hospital as a result of injuries. The first took place on North Raleigh Boulevard, the second on Southgate Drive, and the third on Glascock Street. The victims were riding their bikes or walking down the street when a dark-colored sedan fired pellets at them. Back in April and May, there were three other pellet gun shootings in Southeast Raleigh. Police cannot confirm any connection among the incidents. (CBS17, WRAL)A man pulled into a Raleigh parking lot to have a smoke, and was met with an unexpected altercation. An unknown man walked up and fired multiple shots hitting his shoulder, leg, and finger. The victim sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The suspect was last seen fleeing through the parking lot. (CBS17)The second winners of the North Carolina vaccine lotteries have been selected. Natalie Everett of Pineville won the $1 million, and Jessica Klima of Greensboro won the $125,000 scholarship. (Courier-Tribune) Since announcing the vaccine lottery, more than 225,000 people have come in for a first dose. However, many North Carolinians still remain unvaccinated. North Carolina saw the largest single-day jump in cases since April 20th on Thursday.
