Press release from UNC Greensboro: July 15, 2021 After nearly three decades, UNCG Police Chief Paul Lester is returning to civilian life.  A celebration of his service and dedication was held at the Kaplan Center for Health & Wellness on Tuesday, July 13. Elected officials, UNC System representatives, current and former UNCG leaders, along with community partners and members of the UNCG Police Department were in attendance to offer well wishes to the Chief. UNCG Chancellor Frank Gilliam thanked Paul for his leadership, commitment to safety, and his unwavering commitment to keeping our campus safe. NC House of Representatives Majority Whip Jon Hardister, who said the Chief "has been great to work with" and "is a true leader," ordered the NC flag to be flown over the Capitol in Paul's honor.  Guilford County District Court Judge Stuart Albright said Paul "is a credit to his profession and it was my privilege and pleasure to have worked with him when I was the Guilford County District Attorney." NC State Representative John Faircloth, UNC System Safety & Operations Advisor Brent Herron, former UNCG Police Chief Jamie Herring, former Vice Chancellor Reade Taylor, Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration Bob Shea, among others offered their words of thanks, support and congratulations to Paul on the next chapter of his life. From his unwavering commitment to making our campus safe, to engaging with students through cookouts, campus ride alongs, improvements to pedestrian walkways, mentoring and hiring cadets for the UNCG PD, Paul leaves the University in a better place.
