Winning Street Installation Unveiled In Hudson Square: See It

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — A winning street installation was unveiled recently in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. The new installation, "Restorative Ground," is located on King Street between Hudson and Greenwich Streets. WIP Collaborative, a group of women-led independent design professionals based in Brooklyn, created the winning design for the "Care for Hudson Square" competition. Photo courtesy of Hudson Square Properties The installation was the winner of the "Care for Hudson Square" competition, a joint venture between Hudson Square Properties, Trinity Church Wall Street, Norges Bank Investment Group, Hines, the Urban Design Forum, and the Hudson Square Business Improvement District. "CB2 looks forward to our neighbors enjoying Restorative Ground's enhancement of our public space and the many passive and recreational benefits it will bring to our community," said Shirley Secunda, the Community Board No. 2 Chairperson, in a news release." The installation exists between a parking lane and a part of a sidewalk that aligns with King Street's participation in the Open Streets Program. It is made out of durable materials such as recycled rubber, astroturf, and offers sections for lounging, gathering, and playing. City Council representative Corey Johnson also commented in a news release on the new Lower Manhattan street installation, "New Yorkers have relied on their open spaces more than ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. I am grateful for this collaborative effort in Hudson Square and look forward to more projects like this so New Yorkers can safely enjoy public space together."
