What is This Thing will try to get at some of the fundamental questions that architecture asks – and tries to answer. What is This Thing will try to get at some of the fundamental questions that architecture asks – and tries to answer. In the midst of a transformation, Kimball Art Center seeks a collaborative discussion on how architecture contributes to outcome. Today, Kimball Art Center offers a platform that allows people to explore and experience creative expressions on a national scale before turning within to nurture their own creativity through the organization's educational programs. And, today is when Kimball Art Center will envision, fund and develop its future self and forever home. Through this transformation, the future Kimball Art Center will be born, and Park City's place as an art and culture-driven community will be solidified. To help us collaborate and define how architecture contributes to the outcome, Kimball Art Center has invited architect and educator Martin Finio, FAIA. Through examples of his work, Finio will lead a discussion titled, What is This Thing. Following this community discussion, Kimball Art Center will continue the process of envisioning how our future home serves us all. About Martin Finio: Christoff:Finio, is a small yet influential architecture practice in New York. The work of the studio covers a wide range of building types and scales, from cultural and educational buildings to refined private residences and arts related installations. Among their many accolades, they have been recognized by the American Institute of Architects with several Design Honor Awards, named by Architectural Record magazine as one of their annual Design Vanguard, Architectural Digest named them to their prestigious AD 100 list, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters honored them in 2014 with an Academy Award. In 2016, Finio was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows for his contributions to the profession. Parallel to his practice, Finio is a Senior Critic at the Yale School of Architecture, where he has led design studios focused on a range of topics and places, from New Haven to Ghana.
