Level 1 trail maintenance day on Mt. Garfield in the White Mountains of NH. Sponsored by The Mountain Wanderer Bookstore, Lincoln, NH. Do the mountains call to you? If you like time on the trails and are game for a physical workout that yields visible results, we invite you to join us on a "Level 1" trail maintenance day on Mt. Garfield. Volunteers will meet White Mountain Trail Collective staff at the Cannon Ski area parking lot off Exit 34C on I-93 at 8am to carpool over to the trailhead (trailhead parking is extremely limited). The day will end around 3 PM at the latest. The Mt. Garfield Trail is a 4.8 mile trail with an elevation gain of around 3,000 feet that runs from the trailhead on Gale River Loop Road to the Garfield Ridge Trail. It has several water crossings lower down. We are hoping to complete around 1 mile of trail maintenance. The White Mountain Trail Collective will guide you through the process of maintaining a trail, including brushing out the trail corridor, removing blowdowns, and clearing and re-shaping drainages. We'd love to have you join us! Safety equipment will be provided for you, but if you have your own, we recommend that you bring it. All trail maintaining tools will also be provided to volunteers. Please bring your own snacks, water for consumption while on the trail (as well as bug spray/sunscreen and any necessary medications for allergic reactions to vegetation or insects, etc). Additionally, we ask that you wear hiking boots and pants to do trail maintenance. There is no restroom at the Garfield trailhead. Depending on the number of people who have signed up, we will either work our way up from the trailhead in one group or split up into different groups and leap-frog each other up from the trailhead.
