Each participant will receive a Dealing With Dementia Guide, at no cost. The workshop is geared to caregivers of individuals who are living with dementia and introduces participants to each section of the guide, which includes: basic information on dementia, insights into the caregiving journey, how to develop a dementia-friendly environment, dementia behavior management, caregiver self-care, and selecting the best services and resources. The workshop also highlights safety, problem-solving, communication, and stress management. Coupled with the workshop, the guide becomes a valuable resource for the caregiver. Southern Georgia Regional Commission's Area Agency on Aging (SGRC-AAA) is an active participant in the Dementia Friends Georgia Initiative and has staff who have been specially trained as Dementia Friend Champions who offer free one-hour informational sessions. In these sessions, participants learn about the worldwide Dementia Friends movement, living with dementia, and the simple things almost anyone can do to support someone living with the disease.
