Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Port Engineer the General Maintenance Technician is responsible for cleanliness, aesthetics and minor maintenance at Red and White Fleet including but not limited to the Vessels, Floats, Main Office, Engineering shop, and Boarding areas. Qualifications Required 1. Education: Minimum- High School diploma 2. Experience: Desired 3-5 years in a marine maintenance environment 3. Leadership: Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision 4. Technical Skills: Must have good written and verbal communication skills 5. T.W.I.C: A current credential is required for employment Essential Functions and Routine Duties: A. Engineering Shop 1. General shop cleanliness, upkeep and organization 2. Weekly waste disposal B. Vessels 1. Painting and preservation throughout vessels interior and exterior including broadcast non-skid 2. Be familiar with application of marine coating systems 3. Cleaning of bilges and voids 4. Assist in general preventative maintenance 5. Assist in minor corrective maintenance C. Boarding area 1. Maintaining ground surfaces 2. Upkeep and repair of concrete around stanchions and signs 3. General repair and upkeep as directed D. Floats/Ramps 1. Assist in repairs to floats and ramps 2. Maintain surfaces Recordkeeping: Maintenance logs must be maintained, properly filled out and filed Cleanliness: 1. Assure the engineer shop and work area is maintained in a clean and safe manner 2. Assure tools are returned to their proper storage location and maintain the organization of worksites 3. Keep engineering spaces and deck plates free of oil and water 4. Wear clean and professional uniform Vessel and Dock Maintenance 1. Support other Engineering staff in completion of routine and project-based maintenance and repair as prioritized by Director of Engineer. Heavy emphasis on deck maintenance. Communication 1. Communicate over the radio in a professional manner. 2. Communicate professionally in person, with crew, captains, managers, guests and third-party contractors. 3. Be available for cell phone communication during work hours and in case of emergency, during non-work hours as well. Safety 1. Adhere to the drug and alcohol program 2. Use of appropriate PPE including but not limited to life jackets, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves etc. 3. Follow engineering best practices, using tag outs, and proper forms of communication with vessel’s crew and the engineering department. 4. Good housekeeping: using tools as they were designed to be used, stowing tools and parts in their proper places, proper labeling of valves, switches, wires, and equipment. 5. Keeping a watchful eye for equipment and machinery that is worn and no longer functioning properly. 6. Demonstrate leadership in safety through example and provide accountability to other employees. 7. Address and communicate any observed hazards 8. Participate in safety, security and environmental audits of work space and equipment. 9. Be familiar with how to locate and use Safety Data sheets (SDS) 10. Conduct work in a fashion that protects the environment and conforms with current laws and regulations. Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Special Projects: Complete special tasks as assigned by the Director of Engineering, being sure to seek clarity on expectations and assistance when needed. Organizational Support 1. Provide additional support throughout the organization as requested by the Red and White Fleet management team. 2. Contribute to Red and White Fleet’s culture of superior customer service Success Factors and Job competencies 1. Planning- Ability to think ahead and plan in advance for short term and long-term success 3. Technical proficiency- Strong understanding and ability to use all systems required in the department 6. Team Builder- Must develop and foster teamwork within department 7. Customer Service- Must excel in and ensure excellent customer service throughout department 8. Initiative- Ability to challenge oneself and others to take action and develop new opportunities Physical demands and Working Environment: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear 2. This employee must occasionally be able to lift 50 pounds 3. This employee must be able to independently travel 4. This employee must be able to work in a marine environment Work Environment: 1. Must work in a facility where space is limited and shared 2. Temperature and climate may vary 3. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors 4. Moderate noise level Projected Work Schedule and Hours: This is a full-time position projected at 30 hours per week minimum and 40 hours per week maximum. Business operations are seven days a week and your schedule may vary based on operational needs. Night and weekend work may be required. Performance Standards 1. This employee will receive a performance appraisal by the Director of Engineering following the introductory period of employment and each year during the month of November to review the individual’s performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description and the attainment of individual and department goals 2. This employee is expected to adhere to all company policies, vision and mission at all times 3. The employee should always act in the best interest of the company
