PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Town of North Hempstead has partnered with local taxi companies to offer free and discounted rides to residents with disabilities.
"Transportation can sometimes be challenging for individuals with disabilities, especially on Long Island," Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. "We hope this will help so many of our residents with their grocery shopping and medical appointments."
Residents with a disability between the ages of 21 and 59 are eligible for free taxi rides to grocery stores and discounted rides to medical appointments. All residents aged 60 and above are eligible for this service as well through the Project Independence transportation program.
For more information and to determine eligibility, call 311 or 516-869-6311. All rides must be booked at least one day in advance.
